P50.3M marijuana burned in Kalinga

BAGUIO CITY –– Anti-narcotics operatives destroyed over P50.3 million worth of marijuana in 18 plantation sites in Kalinga province in a three-day operation.

About 251,500 marijuana plants were uprooted and burned from an aggregated 18,300-square meter area in Loccong village, Tinglayan town from Tuesday to Thursday, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Cordillera.

In a separate operation on Tuesday, authorities also burned 250 marijuana plants in a 50-sqm site at Palina village in Kibungan town, Benguet.

The operation was part of “Oplan Weed Wrecker,” a series of eradication campaign by the town’s police unit. The campaign started this year.

Tinglayan and Kibungan are listed as top sources of marijuana plants in the region, supplying as far as the Visayas, according to PDEA-Cordillera.
