Imee Marcos to inhibit from Senate poll panel probe on ‘Bongbong’ protest

MANILA, Philippines – Neophyte Senator Imee Marcos said she would inhibit as the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms in case it probes into the 2016 election protest of her brother, former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos.

“Sa palagay ko, pwede namang talagang mag-oversight diyan [sa electoral reforms committee]. Siyempre pag may kinalaman yung kapatid ko. Out muna ako,” Marcos said in a weekly press forum at the Senate on Thursday when asked regarding possible resolutions seeking for an inquiry on anomalies in the 2016 elections.

Marcos was elected as chairman of the electoral reforms committee on Wednesday.

“Marami namang vice chairman. Si Senator [Panfilo] Ping [Lacson], kayang-kaya niya yan. Pero kung hindi naman [involved] yung kapatid ko, wala namang problema, kaya ko naman tignan. Pero yung kapag kapatid ko, siyempre out ako muna,” she added.

The senator’s brother has a pending electoral protest following his defeat in the 2016 vice presidential race.

She added that it was just customary to inhibit from such probe concerning her brother. /gsg
