Stray dogs became unlikely heroes after saving a newborn baby girl who was dumped in a drain in Haryana, India, last Thursday, July 18.
The dogs rescued the baby after hearing her cries from the drain, as per Indo-Asian News Service via India Today on Saturday, July 20.

Police caught wind of the incident after receiving tips from passers-by who noticed the dogs barking near the drain.
Authorities were able to retrieve surveillance footage of how the baby ended up in the drain. The video showed an unidentified woman throwing the newborn into it. It also showed the dogs pulling the baby out after the woman had left.
A police official told the news agency that the baby is undergoing treatment in a hospital. The principal medical officer of the hospital said she weighs less than 1,100 grams and her condition is serious, during the time of the report.
Police registered a case against the unknown woman who left the baby in the drain. They are working on identifying the woman, who will face charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, as per report. Ryan Arcadio/JB
