MANILA, Philippines – A man was shot dead by suspected robbers in front of his home in Tondo, Manila, early Tuesday, police said.
Senior Police Officer 2 Virgo Villareal of the Homicide Section of the Manila Police District identified the fatality as Remy Sonaho, 49, of Calamansi Street in Tondo, Manila.
Initial investigation showed that Sonaho had been drinking liquor outside his home at around 1:20 a.m. with barangay kagawad (village councilor) Roland Nove and another man identified as Paulino Saguine when a group of men shot at them before fleeing.
Sonaho suffered three gunshot wounds on his torso and was rushed to Gat Andres Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Villareal said that prior to the shooting, Nove told off a group of men he suspected to be robbers waiting for victims along Chesa Street in Tondo.
He said that Nove warned them “pag nahuli ko kayo, bahala kayo” (if I catch you, watch out] after which the group fled.
Villareal said that the same group showed up in front of Sonaho’s home before dawn and shot at the three men.
