MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives chose the new members of its powerful rules committee on Tuesday.
Majority Leader Martin Romualdez from Leyte is concurrently the chairman of the rules panel under the present set-up of the chamber.
During the House’s second plenary session under the 18th Congress, Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikee” Arroyo, Batangas 4th District Rep. Lianda Bolilia, Manila 5th District Rep. Amanda Christina Bagatsing, Pampanga 4th District Rep. Juan Pablo Bondoc, and Pangasinan 4th District Rep. Christopher de Venecia were elected deputy majority leaders.
Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ria Fariñas, Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar, and Quezon 1st District Rep. David Suarez were named assistant majority leaders.
Minority Leader Bienvenido Abante Jr.’s senior deputy minority leader is Iloilo 1st District Rep. Janette Garin, while his deputy minority leader is Quezon City 6th District Rep. Jose Christopher Belmonte.
All the new officials are now members of the rules committee which is responsible for the preparation of the chamber’s calendar of bills, order of business and calendar of business.
Earlier in the session, San Juan Rep. Ronaldo Zamora was also named head of the House contingent to the Commission on Appointments, and Batangas 2nd District Rep. Raneo Abu as 12th deputy speaker. /je
