MANILA, Philippines — The Senate adopted on Tuesday a resolution congratulating and honoring Senator Manny Pacquiao for defeating American boxer Keith Thurman in their welterweight world title fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao knocked down Thurman in the first round and persevered for an exciting split-decision victory on Sunday morning (Manila time).

Senate Resolution No. 3 combined the five resolutions filed by Senators Bong Go, Bong Revilla, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Nancy Binay, and Richard Gordon.
In his congratulatory speech, Senate Majority Leader Zubiri lauded Pacquiao as he “continues to raise the Philippine flag in the international arena.”
“Our pambansang kamao has once again brought glory to the country when he emerged victorious in his match against Keith Thurman,” Zubiri said.
Pacquiao thanked the Senate for its support.
“At 40 years old, I can still fight someone who is 10 years younger than me. I can still give a good fight to entertain the fans,” Pacquiao said in his speech.
“I believe that my ability, power, and responsibility has a purpose and that purpose is to inspire the people to rise above their limitation,” he added.
The senator said he will continue with his boxing career for that purpose. /muf
