Man killed in Port Area shootout with Manila cops
MANILA, Philippines — A man was killed in a shootout with police officers in Manila’s Port Area on Monday evening.
According to the Manila Police District’s (MPD) Homicide Section, Mohaldin Usop, alias “Alden” a resident of Tondo’s Baseco Compound died after a brief shootout with police officers from the Baseco police community precinct (PCP).
Initial investigation showed that prior to the shootout, an informant went to the Baseco police community precinct and reported that some men with guns were seen at Baseco’s Block 9 Extension.
Cpt. Salvador Inigo and Cpl Francis Gagarino of the Baseco PCP then went to the area to investigate. Arriving at the scene, police said the dispatched officers were spotted by Usop who then opened fire.
Usop was wounded in the gunfight that followed and was rushed to the nearest hospital where he later died.
Police said Usop’s companion, a certain Penny Magon managed to escape during the shootout.
