Today, July 23, is the 155th birth anniversary of hero and patriot Apolinario Mabini.
Born in 1864, he began his studies at Colegio de San Juan de Letran and finished law at the University of Santo Tomas.
In 1896, he contracted an illness that paralyzed his legs.
Mabini was a member of the La Liga Filipina and a trusted adviser of Emilio Aguinaldo.
In 1901, he was exiled to Guam, where he remained until his return to Manila on Feb. 26, 1903. He died of cholera on May 13, 1903, at the age of 38. A street in Ermita, Manila, was named after him. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
