A 65-year-old man caused a flight to be delayed after making a fake bomb threat to stop a flight attendant he liked from leaving the country. The incident occurred in Belgrade, Serbia, last Thursday, July 18.
The unidentified man phoned in the fake bomb threat which caused Lufthansa flight LH1411, bound for Frankfurt, Germany to be evacuated before take-off, as reported by Sky News on Saturday, July 20.
The bomb threat caused 130 passengers and five crew members to disembark from the airplane while it was inspected by sniffer dogs and a special police squad. As a result, the flight was delayed for eight hours, forcing some passengers to book alternative flights.
Police traced the location where the call was made, leading to the arrest of the suspect. As per report, the man admitted to the hoax on Saturday.
The old man claimed that he met two flight attendants and was rejected after asking them out to dinner. He said he really liked one of the women, and when he could not track her at the hotel, he became desperate to do something to keep her in the country.
Prosecutors requested for the suitor to be kept in custody, the report said. He faces charges for causing panic and disorder.
Just last week, a stowaway in Nigeria also caused panic among airline passengers when he climbed on the wing of an airplane, saying he wanted to go to Ghana. Hannah Mallorca/JB
