Manila murder suspect falls after 13 years

MANILA, Philippines – A murder suspect was recently arrested after 13 years in hiding, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno announced on Monday.

Elements of the Manila Special Mayor’s Reaction Team arrested Ricky Bacani, 36, Thursday night in Tondo Manila.

The Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 17 issued an arrest warrant against Bacani on July 18, 2006.

Moreno said that the arrest of Bacani was made following surveillance operations around Tondo.

He urged other wanted individuals to surrender to authorities and reiterated that his administration is bent on combating criminality.

“Your sons and daughters are walking the streets, and then along the street, there is somebody who is wanted. What can we say about peace and order situation if these people are hiding in the communities?” Moreno said in a press conference.

“Sumuko na lang kayo. Mahirap na ang buhay,” he added.

Moreno also previously announced the arrest of some of the city’s most wanted criminals days after he assumed office. /gsg
