Japanese envoy to help promote Intramuros to Japanese tourists

MANILA, Philippines — Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koji Haneda on Monday said he will help Manila Mayor Isko Moreno in promoting Intramuros as a tourism destination for Japanese tourists.

Haneda made the assurance during his courtesy call on Moreno following the flag-raising ceremony at the Manila City Hall. Haneda was the fourth ambassador to meet Moreno following his election as Manila mayor.

“I am going to promote the historical trail of Intramuros because it has a Japanese footprint too. It is a magnet for Japanese tourists,” Haneda told Moreno during their meeting.

Aside from this, Haneda said that he was “impressed” by the works of Moreno since assuming office the head of the country’s capital.

“I am impressed with your achievements for the City in so short a time,” Haneda said. “You hit the ground running.”

Haneda also invited Moreno to visit Tokyo and Yokohama soon.

After the meeting, Haneda gave Moreano a white plate with the image of a phoenix as a token to remember his visit.

In return, Moreno gave Haneda the symbolic key to the city of Manila.  /muf
