A man caused alarm among passengers after climbing on the wing of an airplane at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria.
Usman Adamu, while holding a bag, ran towards the Azman aircraft bound for Port Harcourt, as it was about to take off. A scene from the incident was captured in a video posted on Instagram last Friday, July 19 by social entrepreneur and Slum2School Africa founder Otto Orondaam.
“The pilot and a few passengers spotted him running towards the aircraft and the pilot immediately slowed down and quickly put off the engine,” Orondaam said. “The guy approaches the plane with gloves and starts walking around and under the aircraft holding a bag which he dropped inside the engine.”
According to Orondaam, the passengers were stuck in the airplane for 30 minutes. Despite arriving within 23 minutes, authorities from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria were scared to approach Adamu. The passengers were eventually able to disembark from the flight while Adamu had been apprehended.
Adamu was arrested by aviation security personnel after the incident, Daily Post reported on the same day.
The stowaway claimed he wanted to travel to Ghana, but refused to reveal how he was able to get on the airplane. Investigation about the case is ongoing. Hannah Mallorca/JB
