Isko Moreno applauds Pacman’s victory, cites boxer’s triumph over adversity

MANILA, Philippines  – Manila Mayor Isko Moreno joined the country on Sunday in congratulating boxing champion Sen. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao who defeated American Keith Thurman in their World Boxing Association unified welterweight title fight in Las Vegas.

Moreno said that Pacquiao is an example of someone who triumphed over poverty and adversity through hard work.

“Buong kagalakan ko pong binabati ang ating hinirang na Pambansang Kamao at People’s Champ, Senator Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao, sa kanyang tagumpay kung saan ipinamalas niya ang galing ng lahing Pilipino sa larangan ng pagboboksing,” Moreno said in a statement.

“Tulad ng aking mga kapwa Batang Maynila, si Pacman ay galing sa hirap at nagsumikap sa maraming aspeto ng buhay, mapa-pulitikal man o sa larangan ng boksing,” he added.

Moreno said that local government of Manila is one with the country in extending its congratulations to the “People’s Champ”.

“Hindi mapapantayan ang ipinamalas na husay at galing ni Pacman na marami nang beses na kinilala sa iba’t ibang dako ng mundo,” he said.

Pacquiao, the WBA Regular welterweight titlist, annexed Thurman’s WBA Super welterweight title via a split decision.

Two judges scored the fight 115-112 for Pacquiao, while Glenn Feldman scored it 114-113 in favor of Thurman. /gsg
