MANILA, Philippines — Senator Sonny Angara on Friday said he expects President Rodrigo Duterte to disclose his 10-year plan for the country when he delivers his fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday, July 22.
“For the fourth Sona, the President must outline his plans, not only for the next three years but for the next decade,” Angara said in a statement.
He added that the proposed P4.1-billion 2020 national budget should also lay down the framework for a 10-year development plan for the country.
“This should result in the next administration building on what the President has achieved and what he started during his term and not the perennial focus on going after its predecessors,” the senator said.
Apart from this, Angara said he also expects Duterte to fulfill his promise of a pay hike for teachers, as well as the creation of more jobs and opportunities for Filipinos.
He also commended the President for being “generally successful” in fulfilling his promise to rid the country’s drug problem as can be seen on the people’s perception of Duterte.
And if Duterte manages to solve the worsening traffic problem, Angara thinks that the criticisms hurled against the Chief Executive will be set aside.
“We now have the Free tuition Law, Free Irrigation Law, and Universal Healthcare Act, all of which will improve the lives of the people, particularly the poor,” he said about the laws passed under the Duterte administration. “We would like to see them building on these gains.”
“We believe the administration has the political will and capability to get things done,” Angara added. /kga
