At least 11 pupils killed as dump truck falls into cliff in Cebu town

CEBU CITY — At least 11 persons were confirmed dead after a truck fell into a cliff in Boljoon town, south of Cebu, Friday, July 19.

The local police said the accident happened in Barangay Upper Becerril past 7 a.m. this morning.

Ruben Niere, the town’s information officer, said on board the mini dump truck were elementary school pupils who were supposed to attend the opening ceremonies of a sports activity in Barangay Poblacion.

The truck was approaching a downhill portion of the road when it suddenly lost its brakes.

Some of the injured pupils were brought to the district hospital in Boljoon, while those with major injuries were brought to Cebu City.

Rescue operation was ongoing as of this posting. /lb
