Gwen miffed: No e-Gwen Highway in Medellin

WHERE are the beautiful highways?

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia voiced displeasure in finding that Medellin town wasn’t implementing the e-Gwen Highway program.

Garcia, who visited the town yesterday for a public consultation, got irked when she learned that barangay captains made no effort to beautify the roads.

The e-Gwen Highway program aims to promote cleanliness, creativity, and an appreciation of culture and heritage in Cebu towns.

Garcia said barangay captains in Medellin have a “mixed appreciation” of the program and should take a “lakbay-aral” tour of Camotes Island to get an idea of how to implement the e-Gwen program.

Medellin Mayor Ricardo Ramirez said his town will cooperate with the Capitol in the program.

Garcia’s visit was part of an out-of-town session by the Provincial Board (PB), its last for the year.

In their session yesterday, the PB approved a supplemental budget worth P37,433,000 for the Christmas bonuses of the Capitol employees.

Last week during the Capitol’s Christmas party, Garcia announced that she would release the employees Christmas bonus of P20,000 each.

All 1,500 employees will be receiving this cash bonus or the equivalent of their monthly pay whichever is higher. Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
