PNP to deploy 72 motorcycle cops, 36 mobile cars to secure Sona convoy

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) will be deploying 72 motorcycle units and 36 mobile cars to ensure the security of convoy of high-profile visitors during President Rodrigo Duterte’s 2019 State of the Nation Address (Sona).

“Deployment ng HPG for the 18th congress sa Sona, we have 72 motorcycles and 36 mobile cars. All in all,” PNP-HPG director Brig. Gen. Roberto Fajardo told reporters at the send-off ceremony of HPG Contingent for Sona 2019 in Camp Crame, Quezon City on Wednesday.

Fajardo also noted that 171 personnel from the PNP-HPG will participate in security preparations for Sona on July 22.

Fajardo said the PNP unit is tasked to escort and guarantee the safety of congressmen and other important participants of the Sona.

“Mandate ng HPG is to escort the congressmen and convoy security, we see to it the convoy of those VIPs are properly undertaken and secured,” he said.

Fajardo also said he respects the rights of rallyists during Sona, noting that their protests should be peaceful.

“Automatic ‘pag rally karapatan nila. We will maintain maximum tolerance basta huwag na sila magulo. The moment na magulo na, papasok na tayo sa peace and order,” Fajardo. /jpv
