QC cops nab ex-Pampanga town councilor for car theft
MANILA, Philippines — A former councilor of Sasmuan, Pampanga has been arrested for allegedly stealing away vehicles under the guise of renting it out, or what authorities call “rent-tangay” scheme, in Quezon City.
Police collared Glendy Nacu, 39, of Sitio Sta. Cruz, Barangay Santo Tomas in Sasmuan at a restaurant in Barangay Talipapa along Quirino Highway early Tuesday morning. Nacu, according to police, was a subject of a standing arrest warrant for carnapping. The warrant of arrest was issued by Judge Irineo Pangilinan Jr., Presiding Judge of Regional Trial Court Third Judicial Region, Branch 58, Angeles City in Pampanga.
In a report from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), complainants Maria Loreto, 53, and Gina Cruz Macaya, 55, reported to Talipapa police station that they were victims of Nacu’s “rent-tangay” scheme.
Police explained that under the scheme, suspects would pose as renters of private vehicles and pay an agreed amount but would only pawn the rented vehicle to another person.
Subsequently, members of QCPD’s Talipapa station, under Lt. Col. Alex Alberto, launched a manhunt operation and eventually arrested Nacu. /kga
