Hardware store owner shot dead in Tacloban

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines — A man was shot dead on Sunday morning by still unidentified assailants as he was about to open a hardware store he owned in this city.

Manuel Tan, 50, was about to enter ACN Hardware in Lower Nula-Tula in Barangay 74 at 6:55 a.m. when he was shot.

According to the police, Tan arrived at the store on board his Toyota Rush. He then alerted the security guard to open the gate by honking his horn.

Security guard Anaclito Labanan, 39, was about to open the gate when three men approached Tan and repeatedly fired at him.

Tan had gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body.

The perpetrators then boarded a motorcycle and left.

Tan was rushed to the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center by the responding police officers, but he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician, Dr. Glenn Guzman at 7:29 a.m.
