MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde’s statement claiming that the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) could be behind the resolution urging the UN body to deeply investigate human-rights situation in the Philippines  is “laughable,” the revolutionary organization said.

“The statement of the PNP Chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde that the CPP is behind the UNHRC [United Nations Human Rights Council] resolution is extremely laughable and shows the extent to which Duterte’s minions would invent scenarios and act stupid in their desperation to keep the truth from coming out,” CPP said in a statement posted in the National Democratic Front of the Philippines’ official website on Thursday evening.

The CPP was referring to the adoption of a resolution that prompted UNHRC to look into the human-rights situation in the Philippines, including the drug-related deaths under the Duterte administration.

The CPP then said the PNP even resorted to “red-tagging” the UNHRC itself.

“In their anti-communist delusion, Duterte’s minions have resorted to red-tagging even the UNHRC itself,” CPP said.

The communist party also welcomed the resolution, noting that it will investigate killings allegedly carried out by police officers and state-endorsed death squads under the administration’s bloody drug war.

“The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) welcomes the resolution of the UN Human Rights Commission seeking a comprehensive report on the widespread killings carried out both by police and state-endorsed death squads in the course of the Duterte government’s so-called drug war,” it said. /jpv
