MANILA, Philippines — A 5.5 magnitude earthquake rattled northeastern Mindanao on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake struck at 4:42 a.m. at nine kilometers southeast of Carrascal, Surigao Del Sur. It was then followed by an aftershock with a 3.8 magnitude at 5:15 a.m.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Phivolcs said that that tremor was of tectonic origin and had a five-kilometer depth of focus.
The quake was felt in various intensities in the following areas:

Intensity IV – Surigao City; Tandag City; Gingoog City and Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental; Tandag City; Talacogon, Agusan Del Sur
Intensity III – Cagwait, Surigao Del Sur; Balingoan, Salay, Balingasag, Jasaan and Villanueva, Misamis Oriental; Cagayan De Oro City
Intensity II – Mambajao, Camiguin
Instrumental Intensities:
Intensity IV- Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental
Intensity II – Cebu City; Borongan City
Intensity I – Bislig City; Cagayan de Oro City
Residents in the area should brace for damages and further aftershocks, Phivolcs said.
