LPA outside PAR may turn into tropical cyclone — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility is (PAR) likely to become a tropical cyclone in the coming days, the state weather bureau said on Friday.

The LPA was last spotted 2,275 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. Its cloud bands are starting to bring cloudy skies and isolated rains over Mindanao and Eastern Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Weather specialist Gener Quitlong said the LPA may enter the PAR by Sunday or Monday.

While it is possible to intensify into a tropical depression, there are still no indications that it will hit land.

The southwest monsoon, meanwhile, continues to affect extreme Northern Luzon.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have fair weather and chances of isolated rain showers.  /muf/ac
