50 dogs, 15 cats saved from euthanasia at Manila animal pound

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 50 dogs and 15 cats were rescued by animal welfare groups from being euthanized in Manila.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno thanked actor-host Marc Nelson and animal welfare group Pawssion Project founder Malou Perez for adopting the abandoned pets.

“Maraming salamat po, Mr. Marc Nelson and Ms. Malou Perez of PAWSSION PROJECT and MBY PET RESCUE AND SANCTUARY sa pag-adopt sa 50 dogs at 15 cats,” Moreno said in a Facebook post last June 8.

Moreno said the animals were scheduled for euthanasia or mercy killing because the Manila City pound is almost full.

“Scheduled for euthanization po dapat ang mga aso at pusa na ito dahil napupuno na po ang Manila City Pound, buti na lang po’y nagmagandang loob po kayo,” Moreno said.

He also appealed on responsible pet ownership: “Sa mga pet lovers po, please, marami pong mga kawawang aso at pusa na nire-rescue sa kalye who deserve a new home and loving owners. Adopt, don’t shop.”

After being rescued, Pawssion Project said the pets were brought to the veterinarian for distemper test and blood test.

Pawssion Project aims to “rescue stray dogs and dogs in need of help, spread awareness on responsible pet ownership and provide quality life to the rescued dogs.” /muf
