Deadly Laguna classroom shooting case: Suspect charged

MANILA, Philippines – Police have filed on Wednesday a criminal complaint against the security guard tagged in the fatal shooting of a Grade 7 student in Laguna.

Renan Estrope Valderama, who also goes by his aliases Renando Valderama and Renz Ivan Valderama, is facing a criminal case for violation of the Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act before the Calamba Prosecutors’ Office.

Police Col. Eleazar Matta, Laguna police provincial director, told INQUIRER.net that the case for illegal possession of firearms was filed by the Calamba City police Tuesday afternoon, while evidence for the case of murder will be submitted Wednesday.

Valderama, a 36-year-old security guard, gunned down a 15-year-old male student inside a classroom at the Castor Alviar National High School in Barangay Masili on July 4 out of jealousy.

Police earlier said the two were in relationship, until the victim decided to part ways after Valderama allegedly abused him sometime in June.

Valderama was arrested Tuesday in Barangay Bucal where he was looking for food.

Police said Valderama hid in the hilly area of Barangay Masili after the crime.
