MANILA, Philippines – The reelection of Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III as Senate President when the 18th Congress opens on July 22 will be a mere formality,  Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said Tuesday.

“Sa amin, ‘yung mayorya, nagkasundo na magpapatuloy si Senate President Sotto. Wala nang kuwestiyon (The majority has agreed that Senator Sotto will remain Senate President),” Drilon said in an interview over dzMM when.

“Pagbukas ng session sa July 22, ay ‘yan po ang pormalidad. We will elect Senator Sotto in accordance with the Constitution,” he added.

“Mukhang wala na ring problema (There appears to be no problem),” Drilon said.

“Nagkasundo na rin, at yung equity of the incumbent ay nangibabaw bilang patakaran so mukhang walang masyadong palit except for some — ‘yung umalis na senador at ‘yung mga bagong chairman (The equity of the incumbent prevails, meaning there will be no major changes, except for committees headed by former senators),”  he added.  (Editor: Gilbert S.
