MANILA, Philippines — The police officer who was caught in a viral video swearing at and threatening to arrest a man who cut in line in front of him at an eatery in San Juan City will undergo a refresher training.
“Nagbigay ng instruction si Chief PNP (Philippine National Police) [Gen. Oscar Albayalde] na isasama siya doon sa next batch ng mag-a-undergo ng values formation,” National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said in a chance interview on Monday, referring to Sr. M/Sgt. Arnulfo Ardales.
(The Chief PNP gave instruction to include Ardales in the next batch of police officers who will undergo values reformation.)

Eleazar said there is no schedule yet on the training for Ardales, as the PNP still “piles up” other police officers who will also undergo the reformation course.
He said the training is part of the restorative approach of the PNP’s internal cleansing program to instill discipline to its officers.
Ardales has been relieved from the San Juan City Police Community Precinct 3 and transferred to the District Headquarters Support Unit of the Eastern Police District as he faces investigation on the incident.
According to Eleazar, Ardales’ actions should be a lesson to other police officers, saying the NCRPO will not tolerate any abuse of power among its ranks.
“Lahat naman tayo nag-iinit ng ulo, pero we cannot justify [his actions] kahit pa anong pinagbasehan ng init ng ulo ‘yung pinakita niya (All of us get angry sometimes, but we cannot justify his actions no matter what its cause is),” he said.
“Sinasabi ni Chief PNP na (The PNP chief said that) when you take your oath as a police officer, there are some rights that you wait in favor of organizational discipline. Public servant tayo kaya (so) we serve and protect,” he also said.
