MANILA, Philippines — The current Manila administration is targeting to increase police visibility around the university belt area following reports of several untoward incidents.
Julius Leonen, Chief of Manila Public Information Office, said this on Sunday as students raised their concerns with hold-up incidents along the university belt in social media.
Leonen said that the local government of Manila would be coordinating with the Manila Police Department (MPD) about increasing police authorities on the streets.
“We’re gonna reinforce the police presence around U-Belt area particularly by putting up more police outpost and by increasing police visibility in the area,” he told INQUIRER.net in an interview.
“We’re gonna coordinate with the MPD first regarding additional police presence and visibility. One step at a time tayo,” he added.
The U-Belt area covers the major universities located along Sampaloc and Quiapo areas.
Among those schools considered to be under “U-belt” are University of Santo Tomas, Far Eastern University, University of the East, San Beda College, and San Sebastian College-Recoletos Manila. (Editor: Julie Espinosa)
