INSTEAD of newspapers, the Medellin municipal government wanted to publish its tax revenue code in the Capitol’s official newsletter free of charge.
In an interview, Mayor Ricky Ramirez said he wants the Provincial Board (PB) to amend a provision that requires the publication of the revenue code in local dailies of general circulation for three weeks.
Ramirez told Cebu Daily News that there are hardly newspapers sold in the town.
“I find it funny because in my town hardly anyone reads newspapers and you can’t even find a newsstand here,” he said.
Ramirez said their tax code enacted two years ago remain unimplemented because of that requirement.
He said he asked Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia last August to ask if they could publish their tax code in Sugbo News.
He said the newsletter is more accessible in his town because it is given free. Sugbo News is a news publication owned by the Capitol.
Garcia said Sugbo News will charge only 10 percent of the amount the local government units pay to local dailies.

Market opening postponed
THE new Mandaue City market postponed its opening yesterday to January 8 next year after some vendors filed a petition for temporary restraining order (TRO) before Judge Teresita Galanida of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 56.
Mandaue City Administrator James Abadia told Cebu Daily News that the head of Mandaue Public Market Vendors Association, Moreno Sasing filed the petition.
The Mandaue Public Market Vendors Association headed by Sasing claimed that even if they have 700 members, their organization came last in the raffling while the Mandaue Vendors Cooperative and Mandaue City Public Market Association came ahead of them.
Last Friday, a court hearing was called between opposing vendors and city officials.
