Gov’s daughter finds Capitol work ‘daunting’

A meeting with her mother’s chief of staff showed Ma. Esperanza Christina Garcia Codilla the wide scope of work she faces as Capitol consultant on projects and programs institutionalization.

“Daunting,” she told Cebu Daily News when asked about her first day at work in the Capitol.

She said she met with Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia’s chief of staff Elizabeth Francia and saw that a “lot of work needs to be done” in promoting the programs.

Christina said her first day saw her gathering documents and information about programs like the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo, Obra Negosyo and Expanded Green and Wholesome Environment that Nurtures (E-GWEN), among others.

She will be paid a token P1 for her services, which started yesterday.

Under the contract, which ends December this year, the 30-year-old lawyer will perform five functions.

She will “review and analyze” existing projects and policies, then “advise the governor” on ways to ensure their continuity.

She has to “come up with guidebooks” for each program and project, and “oversee the steps” to execute them.

She will also “represent the governor before departments and agencies of the national government and local government units” when needed and attend any and all weekly meetings of department heads and consultants.

Christina said she will meet with the point persons of the programs.

“I prefer to do all the guidebooks, simultaneously,” she said.

“I could not let this opportunity to serve pass because this would be the time that I could give back to the province … The province of Cebu has done so much for my family,” she told Cebu Daily News.
