Today, July 5, is the 21st death anniversary of National Scientist Jose Encarnacion Jr. A notable economist and the first Filipino to be published in an economic journal of international standing, Encarnacion served as president of the Philippine Economic Society.  He was named a National Scientist in 1987. Born in Manila on Nov. 17, 1928, he died in 1998. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
