LOOK: Isko tours Manila Zoo, promises improvements

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso saw for himself the condition of one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, the Manila Zoo, and promised to make it friendlier to students after he’s done improving the 60-year-old facility.

Domagoso paid a visit to the zoo on Thursday (July 4), checking out animals that are still there and telling reporters that, like other pressing matters on his table, he’s taking things one day at a time.

Domagoso said once improvement had been completed at the 5.5 hectare zoo, it would be more friendly to students. He did not elaborate.

Manila Zoo has been ordered shut for an indefinite period since January after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources marked it as one of Manila Bay’s major polluters. (Editor: Tony Bergonia)
