Hailstorm surprises Cebu residents

CEBU CITY — Residents in Toledo City, west Cebu were surprised after a hailstorm occurred in their place at past 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Nilo Marata posted a video on Facebook where it was raining with ice in Barangay Lutopan for about two minutes.

“At first, it was raining with water. But later, it became ice,” he said.

The ice, he added, was as big as marble.

Meo Aguirre, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and. Astronomical Services Administration, said a hailstorm was possible especially that a thunderstorm occurred in Toledo City early this afternoon.

“The place was somehow elevated hence a hailstorm could have happened,” he said in a phone interview. (Editor: Leti Boniol)
