MANILA, Philippines – No incumbent Metro Manila mayor is involved in the illegal drug trade, Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, director of the Philippine National Police – National Capital Region Police Office (PNP – NCRPO) said on Wednesday.
“Based on our record, wala tayong mayor ngayon na sa record namin is involved sa ilegal na droga. Ayun gusto kong i-klaro yo’n ah,” Eleazar said during a weekly media forum in Manila.
“Sa Metro Manila, yung 17 na mga mayors, nire-review ko, chine-check, wala,” he further said.
Eleazar, however, said authorities will continue its monitoring local officials and police officers.
Cooperation with LGU
The NCRPO chief, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of cooperation between the police and local government units (LGUs) in the drive against crime and illegal drugs in Metro Manila.
“Malaking bagay pa rin ang ating LGU kung pano impluwensya niya, kung paano niya pinakikita ang kanyang paglilingkod sa ating bayan at kung papaano…dinidiinan niya na: Do’n tayo sa tama at lahat ng ilegal ay hindi dapat ginagawa,” Eleazar said.
Over the weekend, reelected and neophyte Metro Manila mayors took their oath of office including Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, among others. (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
