Over 800 MRT-3 passengers offloaded due to door malfunction

MANILA, Philippines – About 850 passengers were offloaded from a northbound Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) train on Wednesday morning due to a defective door.

The MRT-3 management said the passengers were unloaded at Shaw Boulevard station at 6:32 a.m.

The passengers boarded on the next train which arrived minutes later, it added.

A train with defective doors cannot move or gain traction, MRT-3 the management explained.

The cause of the door malfunction is under investigation, but MRT-3 management said it may have been caused by  “stress on door components caused by leaning on the door or forcing it open.”

Management said it would remind passengers not to lean on doors or force it to open.

It will also conduct preventive maintenance and replace door components.

“We apologize for the inconvenience,” the MRT-3 management said. (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
