MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has arrested eight Chinese nationals who allegedly kidnapped two fellow Chinese in Las Piñas City.
According to CIDG, informants personally appeared to its office in Camp Crame on June 28 to report the kidnapping of Liu Chao and Li San Sheng by a group of Chinese.
During the operation, the CIDG Detective and Special Operations Unit and Anti-Organized Crime Unit found the victims handcuffed inside a room of a subdivision in Barangay Pamplona 2 at around 3:00 a.m. on June 29.
Arrested during the operation were the suspects believed to be employees of a company operating an online gaming website, namely Gui Yang, Zhou Xia Long, Wang Wen Tao, Xiong Li. Jiang Fan, Hong Pei Feng, Ly Shao Yong, and Jiang Ying Jiang.
The team also confiscated a wrench, packaging tape, pliers, handcuffs — items that police said were used to torture the victims — and mobile phones.
Investigation showed that the modus of the group is to monitor and befriend players who win a large amount of money in online gaming. The group will then invite the players to dinner and offer them a job with a high salary.
When the victims show up, the suspects will then kidnap, detain, and torture them and demand money in exchange for their freedom, according to police.
The CIDG said the victims had undergone medico-legal examination and the confiscated cellphones were subjected to forensic examination at the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group.
Police said a case of kidnapping and serious illegal detention was filed against the suspects before the Office of the City Prosecutor in Las Piñas City.
The suspects are now detained at the CIDG Anti-Organized Crime Unit./ac
