CEBU CITY, Philippines—A fisherman was taken to Cebu on Sunday afternoon after his pump boat capsized in the waters off Iligan City due to strong waves spawned by tropical storm Sendong.
Eddie Indonto, 44, from Purok 6, Mobod, Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental, was turned over by Raul Alcantara, captain of tugboat Petro Cara to the Cebu Coast Guard Station about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Cebu Coast Guard commander Rolando Punzalan said Alcantara told the Coast Guard that they were heading to Mandaue City in Cebu from Iligan City on Saturday when they saw a fisherman clinging on to his pumpboat that capsized.
Punzalan said the tugboat stopped and rescued the fisherman.
Punzalan said they had not talked to Indonto because they wanted him to rest.
Punzalan said they coordinated with the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas so DSWD-7 could contact their counterparts in Oroquieta City and inform his family there.
Punzalan said Indonto would be brought back to Oroquieta.
