MANILA, Philippines — A total of 5,000 students benefited from the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) “Student Free Ride” during its pilot run on Monday.
“Just to give you an update, we have, I think around 5,000 students already benefited and applied for the free ride as of 11:30 this morning,” DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade said at the pre-State of the Nation Address (Sona) Economic and Infrastructure Forum.
The DOTr announced last week that students can avail free rides at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), and Philippine National Railway (PNR) on certain schedules.
For its pilot run, students only have to present their IDs to avail of the free ride.
But students would have to register online on the websites of the DOTr, MRT-3, and the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) to get a “Student Free Ride” ID. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
