Siso-Espinosa duo leads doubles q’final winners

All singles action grinds to a halt today as the 16th Gullas Cup focuses solely on the doubles events that will all be played at the Cebu Country Club tennis courts.

Bernardine “Nino” Siso and Juniel Espinosa will play Joseph Grel Tallo and Ariel Jay Torion in the semifinals of the premier boys 18-under division.

Siso and Espinosa beat Peter Paul Minoza and Amado Jing Lominoque, 8-2, in the quarters while the tandem of Tallo and Torion routed Louie Pestano and John Flores.

The other semis match will pit Ivan Olo and Alvin Labastida vs. Dan Eldred Cinco and Janel Troy Pintor.

Olo and Labastida routed Franklin Encarnacion and Gabriel Riconalla, 8-2, while the Cinco-Pintor pair dumped Clyde Bienes and Ricard Benjamin Fuentes, 8-2.

Semifinalists in the boys 16-under doubles are Ralph Julianne and Marc Norman Enriquez; Michael Necessario and Christian Dale Soon; Jarryd Laurel and Ondoy and the Parangan brothers Francis Eduard and Ed Adrian.

Unlikely partnerships sprouted in the boys 12-under with Gener Francis Lambayan aand Arthur Craig “Igi” Diaz Pantino gunning for a finals slot against Hugo Vhon Tudtud and Manuel Navales.

Fighting for the other finals ticket will be Rey Dante Toledo and Zudie Karl Balundo against Derek Tabotabo and Jan Godfrey Seno.

GIRLS DOUBLES FINALS

Battling it out for the girls 14-under title are Crissianne Issa Lucero Kintanar and Criszelle Castro against Alexie Santos and Jana Pages.

Kintanar and Castro crushed Mary Andre Danica and Cherry Mae Toledo, 8-1, while Santos and Pages bludgeoned Queenie Tunacao and Berlie Buanghug by the same score.

The girls 12-under title will be contested by the pairs of Allysa Bornia and Sheena Villareal vs. Kara Salimbangon and Beverly Olive Enriquez.

Bornia and Villareal blanked Joy Pogoy and Sheena Dungog in the semis while Salimbangon and Enriquez outlasted the So sisters Mariel and Camille, 8-5.
Tomorrow, the singles finals will be played.
