MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Virac in Catanduanes has developed into a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Saturday evening.
Pagasa said the LPA developed into a tropical depression around 8 p.m.
Pagasa will issue a severe weather bulletin alert at 11 p.m.
In its earlier bulletin, Pagasa said the tropical depression would be named “Egay,” the fifth storm to hit the country this year.
The tropical depression is not expected, however, to make landfall.
