Typhoon Sendong to leave Philippines Sunday night – PAGASA

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Sendong, which drowned northern Mindanao and killed hundreds of residents there, is expected to leave the Philippines on Sunday night, according to the state weather bureau said in its 11 a.m. bulletin, Sunday.

At 10 a.m. Sunday, the eye of Sendong was estimated at 230 km West Northwest of Puerto Princesa City, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said. It was moving westward at 24 kilometers per hour and carrying maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

The typhoon is expected to be at  470 km west northwest of Puerto Princesa City  outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility Sunday night.

Public storm signal number one was hoisted over Palawan, which PAGASA said should expect 10-15 mm of rains per hour. Public storm warnings in other places, particularly in northern Mindanao, which bore the brunt of Sendong, have been lowered.
