TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol –– A newborn piglet with two sex organs has caused some stir among residents of Barangay Looc in Panglao town, Bohol.

The piglet, owned by Alma Guioguio-Esterado, has a female sex organ and testicles but doesn’t have a penis.

Esterado named the piglet “Moymay” because she considered the day-old pig a blessing and a source of joy.

“I am so surprised and amazed that after my mama pig gave birth to 12 healthy piglets. We counted how many males and females [there were] and we discovered something unusual. It’s God’s gift to me,” she said.

Esterado, who designs furniture and owns the Panglao Home Furnishing, has been raising and selling pigs for more than 10 years.

“This is really my first time having that kind of peculiar thing,” said Esterado.

The pig’s condition, according to experts, is called hermaphroditism or having both female and male organs.

Hermaphrodite pigs are sterile and have no capacity to reproduce, experts added. The piglet may have suffered from genetic abnormality as it developed inside its mother’s womb, according to veterinarians.

Moymay is now one day old and looks healthy.

The scrotal sacs were normal in texture and consistency, containing free moving testes with no adherence within the sac.

Esterado said she wanted to keep her hermaphrodite pig as a pet.

“My plan is to keep Moymay as my pet because old people said it brings luck to my business,” she said.
