MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday reminded motorists traveling with their lovers to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel to avoid an accident.
DOTr issued the notice after a video of a couple snuggling and kissing while on the road made the rounds on social media.
“Pasintabi lang po, Ma’am and Sir. Ayaw po namin maging KJ at makasira sa lambingan moments ninyo. We understand you love each other. Pero, love din po namin kayo, and we want you to be safe,” DOTr said in a Facebook post.
DOTr agreed that being romantic with one’s lover is okay, but, it stressed, it should be done in a safe space and circumstance, and not while traveling around.
“Dahil diyan, nais po namin kayong paalalahanan na…. Okay lang maglambingan, basta nasa ligtas na lugar, pagkakataon at pamamaraan,” the agency said.
“TANDAAN: Kapag nagmamaneho, ang focus dapat ng driver ay sa kalsada, hindi sa katabi niya,” it added.
To further emphasize its point, DOTr told drivers a fitting anecdote: “Minsan, mas okay na bumitaw sa nobya, ‘wag lang sa manibela. No bitter feelings. Just pag-ibig.”
(Sometimes it’s better to lay your hands off your lover, than off the wheel. No bitter feelings. Only love.)
As for the viral video of a couple on a daring rendezvous, DOTr said it has submitted the clip to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for investigation and appropriate action.
The video of the couple, shared on Facebook by Carbrazer.tv, has been viewed more than 870,000 times and shared by over 10,000 users. (Editor: Katherine G. Adraneda)
