COTABATO CITY, Philippines – A man in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat on Monday stabbed his wife dead following a heated argument, police said.
Major Randy Eliarda, Lebak town police chief, identified the victim as Daisy Villar, 39, a domestic worker in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and a resident of Barangay Aurelio Freires Sr, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.
Police said Daisy sustained multiple stab wounds in various parts of her body after she was attacked by her husband Anjo, following a heated argument in their home at 1:30 p.m.
Eliarda said Anjo had suspected that his wife was cheating on him. This triggered the argument which led to the stabbing.
Police said Daisy just arrived home from the UAE on Saturday.
Neighbors alerted the police about the commotion inside the couple’s house and the victim’s shouts for help.
But it took the police two hours to convince Anjo to surrender, Eliarda said.
“The crime happened about 1:30 p.m. but we only managed to get inside the house about two hours later when the suspect agreed to surrender,” Eliarda added.
He said the husband apparently felt jealous seeing his wife with other men on her Facebook posts.
The victim’s children, all girls, were in school when the crime happened.
Eliarda said the suspect told him his wife was no longer sending money.
Police added that Anjo was also the subject of a search warrant operation last year for use and peddling of illegal drugs.
The children, who are still in the elementary grades, are now in the custody of Daisy’s parents. (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
