MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) said Monday it supports motorcycle ride-hailing service Angkas, which is set to start its six-month test run by the end of June.
“We support all transport [services], hindi lang Angkas, but those with proper franchise from the LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board). Basta lahat na lawfully franchised ng LTFRB (all given lawful franchise by the LTFRB), we support,” PNP-HPG director Brig. Gen. Roberto Fajardo said in a press conference, as Angkas donated 50 modular motorcycle helmets to the police unit.
“Hindi namin pinipili. Lahat ng may franchise, [we support] (We don’t choose which to support. All that has franchise, we support) because that is the proper way to apply the rules along the highways,” he added.
Angkas earlier said it aims to start its pilot run by the last week of June, as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) approved motorcycle taxis to operate for a six-month test run in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu.

During the same press conference, Angkas regulatory and public affairs head George Royeca said the service “should be able to start in a few days.”
“No specific day but within this week,” he said.
Royeca said the company had re-trained 12,000 of 27,000 Angkas drivers in the system. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
