MANILA, Philippines — Members of party-list group Bayan Muna trooped to the gates of Metro Manila’s water regulatory body on Monday (June 24) demanding new penalties for the recent water supply interruptions which had been blamed on declining water level in Angat Dam’s reservoir.
Bayan Muna chair Neri Colmenares said the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) should impose new fines against Manila Water and Maynilad, for breaching their concession agreements.
“The MWSS should fine Maynilad and Manila Water,” Colmenares told reporters.
“It’s their fault,” he said.
Colmenares added that the two concessionaires violated their contracts with the MWSS which listed conditions like 24-hour availability of water. (Editor: Tony Bergonia)
