MANILA, Philippines – The water level at Angat Dam on Sunday further dipped below critical level, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
The state weather bureau said Angat Dam’s water level at around 6 a.m. Sunday was at 159.43 meters, lower than the 159.78 meters measured on Saturday morning.
The recorded water level is also below the dam’s critical water level of 160 meters.
Water level in several other dams in the country likewise declined — Ipo Dam (-0.50 meters), Binga Dam (-0.21 meters), San Roque Dam (-0.47 meters), Pantabangan Dam (-0.07 meters), Magat Dam (-0.41 meters), and Caliraya Dam (-0.10 meters).
Water levels in La Mesa and Ambuklao Dams, however, slightly increased on Sunday morning at 68.65 meters and 740.59 meters, respectively.
The National Water Resources Board on Saturday further reduced water allocation for the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and its concessionaires as the water level at Angat Dam hit critical level.
Patrick James Dizon, division manager of MWSS, attributed the continued dip in water level in Angat Dam to lack of rainfall due to a weak El Niño. (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
