PNP intel cop shot dead near Camp Crame

MANILA, Philippines — Two motorcycle-riding gunmen shot and killed a police officer near the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City on Friday.

Investigators identified the victim as Police Staff Sergeant Fernando Diamson, 49, member of the PNP-Intelligence Group, who was killed along Col. Bonny Serrano Avenue in Barangay Bagong Lipunan at around 8:50 a.m.

According to a report from the Quezon City Police District’s Cubao Police Station, Diamson was onboard a blue Yamaha NMAX when gunmen wearing black helmets, who were onboard a gray Yamaha NMAX, fired shots at him.

Investigators recovered seven empty shells of still unidentified caliber at the scene of the crime.

Staff Master Sergeant Ernestro Buenviaje, the victim’s colleague at the PNP-IG, said he was also driving his motorcycle in the same area when the victim was ambushed.

Buenviaje said he was not able to fire back at the gunmen since his gun was placed inside the compartment of his motorcycle.

The gunmen managed to escape and remained at large as of posting time. (Editor: Jonathan P. Vicente)
