MANILA, Philippines — Maynilad Water Services Inc. on Friday said 75 percent of its concession area are now affected by rotational service interruptions as Angat Dam’s water elevation continued to dip to 160.28 meters this day.

Data from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the water level at Angat Dam, Metro Manila’s primary source of water, dropped further by 0.45 meters from Thursday’s 160.73-meter elevation.

The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) earlier warned that water rationing may be imposed if the water level of the dam breaches the 160-meter critical level.

Laxa added that 20 percent of their consumers were “severely affected” due to their high area and remoteness from Maynilad’s pumping stations.

The Maynilad official nonetheless said 40 water tankers are on standby to bring water to severely affected areas.

Maynilad will implement a new rotational water service interruption schedule starting Saturday, July 22, following NWRB’s reduction of raw water allocation for the concessionaire.
