MANILA, Philippines — Two detainees escaped from their Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) escort while inside the courtroom of the Quezon City Hall of Justice on Thursday morning.
A report from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the inmates as Ariel Consulta and John Kerwin Clemente.
The escape was discovered after an unidentified jail personnel asked Detachment Commander Dario Asis of Vigilant Investigative and Security Agency to view a closed-circuit television (CCTV) inside the building.
The CCTV film showed that Clemente and Consulta were with 21 other detainees when they were brought to the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 82 at 9 a.m.
Clemente and Consulta did not have any scheduled trial for the day. The two detainees left the courtroom without their escorts’ knowledge.
Clemente’s trial is set for July 1 while Consulta’s trial is scheduled on July 2.
