CITY OF ILAGAN – The Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory here has acquired a P10-million state-of-the-art ballistics microscope that is expected to improve ballistics analysis and confirmation, officials said on Thursday.

Police Lt. Col. Erwin Camarao, Isabela crime laboratory chief, said the new high-technology Projectina VisionX microscope is touted as the most powerful and effective tool in ballistics analysis.

“It uniquely combines comparison microscope technology with ballistic identification technology for confident results and has the capability to integrate crime scene evidence with forensic lab scrutiny,” Camarao said.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Nino Flor Baquiran said the microscope from Switzerland has also been effective in checking fake bills, template cards, latent plates and question document on land titles.

Baquiran said the equipment, the first in Cagayan Valley region, was given to Ilagan City crime laboratory because of its proximity to other police crime laboratories that can also avail of its capability. Villamor Visaya Jr. (Editor: Leti Boniol)
